A visit to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George in St. Catharines - 20 September 2011

I had just finished visiting with the ladies at the Church's Parish Hall when I was invited to see the Church itself. The Right Reverend Archpriest Pawlo Berezniak was very welcoming and permitted me to record some of the aspects of the interior of this beautiful church. Importantly, the viewer should know that the church welcomes guests to services.

Clearly this is a congregation that cares greatly for their religion and this church. It was beautifully appointed and spotless and obvious to me that the people of this parish care deeply for their religious traditions.

A visit to Yates Street in St. Catharines - 29 August 2011

It should come as no surprise that St. Catharines has some very interesting neighbourhoods with some very interesting homes. The good news is that St. Catharines is a very affordable place to live from the real estate point of view, especially when compared to Toronto.

Yates Street is one of the historic streets in the City and a very enjoyable walk too.  The walk I normally suggest to people is that they start near St. Paul St. and walk Northernly up the few bocks to the end of the street and return on the other side of the street. Then I suggest that they walk East along St. Paul and stop at one of the many cafes, bistros or restaurants and have a lunch or dinner. It is a wonderful and enjoyable way to learn about the City.

Is this the smallest home in Ontario?

I know that the average size of a home is finally starting to getting smaller in North America but really, the original part of the house below in Port Colborne can't be much more than 100 square feet.

 To describe it as tiny would be an overstatement, minuscule is a better description. It really is a micro home and that means that while it is very tiny, it is probably very affordable. Here are a few photos.

Below is a lovely old fashioned Dairy Queen across the street from the small home. You can see the home in the background, across the street from the Dairy Queen.

Fractional Addresses

I am always amused and pleased when I see fractional addresses. They are usually found on residential lots that have been severed and in-filled. To me, these fractional addresses are a sign of intelligent re-urbanization and they are usually found on houses in highly walk able older neighbourhoods.

The addresses and real estate below are in the Fitzgerald neighbourhood of St. Catharines where many fractional addresses are to be found. It is interesting to observe the large number of people who walk and ride bicycle around that area all year long.
